The city of Salerno and its province are traversed by several railway lines from the north. In addition to the main high-speed line that ends in Salerno and then continues at standard speed along the southern Tyrrhenian route, it connects Salerno to the Cilento, Vallo di Diano, and Alburni National Park with convenient stops at Paestum (in front of the eponymous archaeological park), Agropoli, Ascea-Velia, Pisciotta-Palinuro, Centola-Palinuro-Marina di Camerota, and Sapri, the last town in the province towards the south.

From Salerno, it is also possible to reach Caserta with a secondary regional railway line. Moreover, with the historical line that crosses and skirts the Vesuvian coast towards the west, it connects the city of Pompeii and the interchange station with the Circumvesuviana line, ensuring connections with the Sorrento coast and then reaching the city of Naples and the Phlegraean Fields with regional and metropolitan trains.

Finally, towards the east from Salerno Central, the line extends towards Eboli, Contursi Terme, and Potenza, as well as the metropolitan line that will continue in 2026 to connect the new Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi airport.

The city of Salerno boasts a newly constructed Metropolitan Railway line, which connects the city from west to east with 6 stops. It passes through the central station, where high-speed trains and various other railway lines, as described above, depart.

Moreover, some lines of the Naples Metropolitan trains start from Salerno. These lines traverse the historical Vesuvian coastal route, with a change in Naples, and reach the Phlegraean Fields and Pozzuoli to the north.

The sea and ports of the Salerno province have always been a privileged, sustainable, and enchanting means of communication.

Year-round and especially during the summer season, there are active connections from various ports in the province of Salerno, from the Cilento and Amalfi coasts, to the islands of the Gulf of Naples (Capri and Ischia), and to the Sorrentine coast, the port of Naples, and the Phlegraean coast.

From March to October, the connections with the islands of the Gulf of Naples and the Cilento coast make Salerno a convenient base for excursions and visits due to its strategic position at the center of the Campania region.

Local connections with the nearby Amalfi Coast by local ferry are active all year round , linking the towns of Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Minori, Maiori, Amalfi, and Positano. These services are provided by local companies offering fast and efficient services with modern vessels.

Fast hydrofoil connections are available to and from Salerno and the islands of the Gulf of Naples, Capri, and Ischia throughout the tourist season. Periodically, these services are also scheduled for the Cilento and Sorrentine coasts, known as the “Sea Metro” public service.

Renting a boat with or without a driver or calling a taxi boat is possible in Salerno and at various docking points along the coast of the vast province of Salerno, which stretches for about 220 kilometers
