CENTOLA PALINURO
is the largest hamlet of Centola and one of the most famous seaside resorts in southern Cilento. Its name derives from the mythical Palinuro, helmsman of Aeneas' fleet, a central figure in the Aeneid.
Gastronomically speaking, 'Alici di Menaica' are a traditional Cilento product, recognised as a Slow Food presidium, originating in Marina di Pisciotta, located between Palinuro and Ascea Marina. This type of anchovies takes its name from an ancient fishing technique, dating back to the times of the ancient Greeks, which is still practised in a few places in Italy.
