Positano is located in a spectacular and panoramic position along one of the most fascinating coastal stretches of Amalfi Coast, precisely in the heart of the bay between Punta Germano and Capo Sottile. Embracing the village like a crown are the green hills of Monte Comune, Santa Maria del Castello, S. Angelo a tre Pizzi, Canocchia, Campo dei Galli and Paipo.
With its vertical structure, the town appears to the visitor as a breathtaking pyramid overlooking the sea. The romantic atmosphere and elegance of this corner of paradise make Positano a seductive dream, suspended between the blue of the sea and the blue of the sky.
From a culinary point of view, the most representative dish is scialatielli all'amalfitana. This preparation, which is part of the local gastronomic tradition, enhances the authentic taste of the region through the use of fresh, quality ingredients typical of the area.
ATTRACTIONS
- Church of Santa Maria Assunta: Located just a short walk from the Spiaggia Grande (Great Beach), this church is famous for its iconic dome, decorated with yellow and blue majolica tiles arranged in scales. The three-nave interior houses numerous treasures, including the Bust of St Vitus, from the Neapolitan school, and some crib shepherds dating back to the 1700s. On the high altar is the Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna and Child, dating back to the 12th century.
-Church of St Catherine: This church is located in the picturesque Punta Reginella district, overlooking Via Pasitea and not far from Fornillo beach. It was built by local merchants who traded with Alexandria, but remained abandoned for a long time until it was later restored.
-Church of San Giacomo: Located in the Liparlati district, this church is easily recognisable by its bell tower decorated with coloured majolica tiles, giving it a distinctive appearance.
- Chiesa del Santo Rosario: This church is located in the heart of Positano, a few steps from the main streets of the town, and is an important religious landmark.
-Roman Archaeological Museum of Positano: Located under the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and inaugurated in 2018, the museum offers the possibility to visit a Roman villa dating back to the 1st century AD, as well as two crypts, one of which is medieval in origin.
